If you were Shaka Smart facing a best out of three CBI championship series against St Louis how would you approach the series? Would you focus on giving the freshman big game experience or would you go all out for the championship and leave it mainly to the experienced players?

If you decide to focus on the championship by playing mostly your experienced players what would do to prepare the team and what type of strategy would you use in the series?

At this point, you have to focus on winning the championship. Winning the CBI validates VCU's "snub" by the NIT and how wrong it was. Also, you are playing an A10 team in a best of three series. Winning that series is a huge boost for the CAA and VCU and recruiting. The A10 conference is probably the conference the CAA plays the most each year and a good barometer for the CAA. The A10 is not considered a mid-major conference and it would be great to say VCU's record this year versus the A10 was 5-0.

Herm Edwards. You play to win the game. There's no other way. Moreover, if you're looking towards next year, whose minutes are you going to reduce to get Theus and Daniels more minutes? Rozzell? I think his minutes have already been reduced some. Maybe they could be reduced more, depending on how he's playing early. You could give Joey more rest, but not much more if you want to win. Who else is gonna sit more than they already do?

I think at this point VCU needs to win this series. We are not in a situation where our big minute players are seniors, the guys playing now will still be playing next year. If we get in a position where we have a nice lead, i say play a little risky and let freshman play, but winning should be our #1 goal.

what type of strategy?!?! i dunno. put the ball in the hoop?

i do agree with vram and others. you play to win, no doubt. even if it is the odu invitational. i also think darius theus and troy daniels need big minutes these next couple of games. i'm talkin' 20-25 for both guys.

joey will be fantastic next season, no doubt. he has nothing to prove in this crap exhibition. this is the time for darius to show what he's got. i want to see the ball in his hands. make plays, kid.

...all I want are two games where Coach is able to use David and IG; and they each get 10 minutes!

GO RAMS! Kick 'What-ever-the-heck-a-Billiken-is' arses!

Since we are either playing against other snubbed teams (SLU) or teams that shouldn't be in the post-season period (GW) I don't think winning this tourney indicates we should have been in the NIT. It sort of seems like losing it would do more damage than winning it would be helpful..at least from a reputation/recruiting standpoint.

If you are Shaka your actions in this game should be be guided by why we played in this tourney to begin with, which I assume is to gain experience/cohesion for next year. So I'd say try to win it, but do it getting the young players some experience. If Larry is voluntarily not going to be here next season then give him no more than 20-23 minutes. Let the extra minutes go to Skeen or Saintil.

These are not exhibition games. VCU fans don't want to go to the game Monday night to see them lose. This is as much a learning experience for Coach Smart and his staff as it is for the players. That's why he needs to coach to win. I can guarantee you St. Louis is in it to win at this point and they have one of the youngest teams in the country. VCU has a chance to end up 27-9 for the season. That is a strong recruiting tool. They have the opportunity to bost a 5-0 record vs. the A10 with wins over Richmond, Rhode Island and St. Louis. That's pretty impressive when you go into a recruit's home.
