Will Wade is the man AND he scheduled VCU a H/H

Oops, he's still the man but please delete this thread.
As much as I used to.... used to dislike Will Wade's personality. I have begun to like his "take no prisoners" attitude and his recognition that VCU is a worthwhile program to play home & home. Bringing his team to the Stu in Nov or Dec will prepare them for hostile environments in the ACC. Thank you Will!!!! GO Rams!

As a non ACC person, I view both programs as being about on the same level in 2025. But I'm an outsider so I don't claim to really follow the ACC much. From my perspective, Clemson is similar to Richmond in that both have fairly mediocre coaches who does just enough not to get fired but not enough to elevate the program to what they could accomplish. If a Bruce Pearl or a Kelvin Sampson were coaching Clemson we'd probably have a much different discussion about Clemson hoops.

That's not going to happen. Clemson is putting all of their money into football, for obvious reasons. Clemson has never won an ACC championship in basketball either. You claim Clemson is similar to fur regarding mediocre coaches. Brad Brownell has been more successful at Clemson than Mooney at fur, but that's not saying much. His ACC winning percentage is barely above .500 at .533. He's been there now for 15 seasons. If Clemson was truly committed to being nationally relevant, they would have made a coaching change by now.

Regarding facilities, when Littlejohn Coliseum was renovated in 2016, the capacity was reduced to 9,000 seats and they still don't sell out most games.

Do not sleep on NC State with Will Wade at the helm. He is probably the best hire NC State has made for men's basketball since Jim Valvano. Inept AD's was the cause for that, but Boo Corrigan is moving the needle in a lot of sports at NC State, and the donors at NC State have deep pockets. That should have been evident with the $8 million buyout Keatts got because Debbie Yow gave him a ridiculous contract with automatic increases that the only way Boo could get out of them was to fire Keatts.

Obviously Brownell is more successful than Mooney, the example is relative to their resources and their modest level of success given those resources.

I'm absolutely not sleeping on Wade at NC State. I think it's a great fit and I think he's gonna have y'all straight real quick.

But you've convinced me about NC State being a better gig than Clemson. Remember, I'm an ACC outsider.

@VRam has some words of wisdom about many teams that are perfectly applicable to NCState and perfectly sum up my feelings as well.

I would bet the #1 justification for snubbing teams who felt they deserved an at-large bid would be their out of conference scheduling. Some coaches believe in challenging their team out of conference, some take a different route. I doubt very seriously this is about some financial windfall for NC State, but you never know.

The smartest move to make regarding scheduling games is to play the best teams you think you can beat. Perhaps Frank is confident about beating VCU and it becoming a resume enhancing win and not doing much damage if they lose?
Agreed. WW isnt doing VCU any favors.

I think as Chill points out it is a good move for an NC State team that might take it on the chin in conference play.

A win against VCU is solid as we should be solid by years end. Also, he thinks he can beat us because will also be a new group of guys. Plus he knew we wouldn’t say no. We will never know, buy I am pretty sure he wouldn’t have wanted to play last years team in his first year at NC State.

However, I like the matchup. None of those transfers are world beaters. Yes NC State has a composite rank of 35 VCU’s is 52. Plus I think it will be an uphill climb even in a wearer ACC as they have the 8th best incoming class in the ACC. Duke, UNC, GT, SMU, Cuse, ND, Clemson are all rated higher.

Again, WW isnt doing us any favors, not his style.

Let's remember too, WW is looking out for WW (not saying that in a negative way). NC St is only the next stop on his "tour". I honestly believe his target is much higher, KY, Duke, TN a real blue blood.
TN might Duke never, KY maybe.

We hold WW in high esteem. However, there are a few HC out there who far exceed his ability and many of them are much more institution friendly.

Also, I disagree that the NC State job is better than the Clemson job. Kind of like arguing that the Mason Job is better than the GW job.

Regardless of whether one takes football more seriously than the other is immaterial when the outcomes of the last 20 years have been nearly the same.

Maybe Clemson isn’t delusional and arent living the days of Sloan, Valvano ( who if we remember was run off for cheating). Hey maybe that’s why they are so forgiving of will. They ran off a cheater and their program tanked. Maybe, just maybe they say he if we cant beat em we join em at all cost.

Say what you will about WW and his basketball acumen, a tiger doesnt change his stripes. It’s only a matter of time.

How would one even cheat in today's wild West environment?

Seriously, in today’s age of “do whatever” how did Fordham manage to get in trouble?
I think their issues predated all guardrails being removed but not really sure on that. They are so irrelevant it's not worth investigating 🙂

This. He thinks we're gonna be an easy out with almost all our best guys gone. He's not a good guy and never has been. We are very fortunate he left when he did.

I disagree, that he thinks we are an easy out. I think he wants to test his team before conference play. Also, they don't have to pay us to show up, so we are a cost savings as well. Everything this guy does is calculated. We nancy and moan that nobody will play us and then when they do we think it is because they think we are an easy out? I mean, give me a break. If they win, it will help them, if they lose, should not hurt them too much. Better than playing Elon or SC State.
