William and Mary is for real

Maryland is an NIT team at best, but still any time a CAA team beats an ACC team it's news. They are playing at the VERY top of their game. Hard to play that way all year and to keep winning the close games (see VCU and Radford). I think they'll fall off some - - probably not enough to fall out of the Friday bye in Richmond though.

Ah, but they were an NIT team when we beat Maryland in the BB&T tournament at the Verizon Center 2 years ago as well. That didn't stop us from whooping it up.

For a program like W&M, this is a HUGE deal. Let's give them their props.

The crazy part for me is that going into the Maryland game I fully expected W&M to go to Maryland and come back with a win. I don't know that I have ever been that confident about W&M beating anyone, much less an ACC team on the road. I don't think they are as vulnerable to a total collapse as people think. Sure they take a lot of 3's, but it is not just one guy taking all of the shots. That doesn't mean that we can't beat them out for the regular season championship, but with the confidence they have at this point I think they have a much better chance of winning the CAA then they do of finishing outside of the top 4.

I felt the same way. The fightin Wrens are darn good. The next 8 days will be telling for the them (and the conference as a whole). With everyone playing 4 games in 8 days, we'll get a feeling of how teams perform on short rest (though not the back-to-back short rest of the tournament). The Tribe have 3 of those 4 on the road:

1/2 @ Hofstra
1/4 UNCW
1/6 @ Delaware
1/9 @ Drexel

I hope they would stay up North in between UD and DU rather than bussing back for one day of classes. Either way, thats a lot of time in busses/planes, and games against teams that while not the top of the CAA, are tough outs nonetheless.

Liv'n on the edge...lady luck shines on Bill and Mary again...they beat Hofstra by 1 (in what sounds likes an UGLY game) on a last second miss by Hofstra. 48-47.

Made 3 treys and shot 18% from behind the arc... an ugly game, but a clutch finish by a sophomore(K Brown) to win it.

We are going to have bad shooting games. I'd take a 1-point win @Hofstra if I knew we were going to shoot 18% from behind the arc, especially when you consider they're a top 100 RPI team and we were 1.5 point dogs. Can't be upset with this one and a 2-0 CAA start.

WM's RPI is up to 3 with a road win over top 100 Hofstra.

VCU drops to 19 with a home win over 145 UNCW

W&M seems to have a cakewalk schedule over the next 5 games too. Their 6th game out is at the Stu. They are hot for sure, but it's far from dominant play. In their 10 straight wins, 3 were by 1 pt and 1 was by 2 pts. Hopefully they are 15-2 and # 1 RPI when they hit Richmond in January. Do you think our guys would be pumped to kick their a$$e$?

Is the sky blue?

I hope they are ranked in the top 25 when they come in. I think they'll have a good shot at it if they win the next 5 going into our game.

It'll be nice to knock off a second ranked opponent at the Stu.

No rushing the court for this on, fellas. get used to it.

It would be nice to get a ranked opponent at the Stu for the second time in history and thump them the same way we did Oklahoma. It will still be tough though. Today they proved that they can get a good team on the road without shooting a very high percentage from 3.

I suppose we think alike. If they do come in ranked and we beat them we need to find one guy to rush the court. If you were at the W&M game you know why.

I dunno. Living up here, it's been a while since I've seen it look anything other than some shade of grey with something falling from it!

I don't know if this has been posted anywhere yet:

How were we all so wrong about William & Mary?

Wait. Did I just say that out loud? Was there a reason to be even thinking about this historical institution founded in 1693 in the colonial hamlet of Williamsburg, Va.?

This is a school that has never been to the NCAA tournament. Its only appearance in the NIT came in 1983. The Tribe have never been ranked.

The joke of losing to Bill and Mary just isn't funny anymore. It's a tired tale. But it's time to take this men's basketball team about as serious as the students on campus must handle midterms.

More story on the link.

1 post season tourney in the last 327 years? Maybe they should change their nickname.
