this is also good news for any Sprint users out there, which runs its 4G on Clear's network.

Thanks for the info. We're looking to budget our cable and internet. Drop Comcast.

Doesn't anybody do a month to month agreement? I don't want to sign up for a year or 2 not knowing whether I'll be satisfied or not. Besides Comcast and Verizon, what are the best value options for always on internet service in Richmond? Any opinions/experience?

Not much else out there. Stay away from clearwire. I know FIOS internet offers month to month plans but they are more expensive. There is Cavalier but I don't know much about them. I would take a serious look at Clear when it comes out.

Thanks. I don't think Cavalier is available where I am. I'll keep an eye peeled for Clear.

Had Caviler for two years in different apartments and was very happy with them. Also had FIOS for a year in RVA and a few up in NVA and like it as well. Only complaint with an internet provider so far was Verizon DSL, which with FIOS now available there is no reason to have.

Anyone have any experience with "Cox"? I saw a commercial in Northern VA and seemed to be cheaper than Comcast.

My parents have had Cox for 10 years or so with as basic as cable comes and internet. Two or three times during those 10 years there has been a few weeks of spotty internet service/speed, but most of the time it works just fine. I've not seen a place yet where you could choose between the two, it's been one or the other. I'd be interested to know if they compete directly anywhere.

I just got the HTC EVO 4G and much to my surprise I can get a 4G signal in most parts of Richmond, including Short Pump, Willow Lawn, VCC, VCU and downtown. Looks like it is pretty much here already. Speed wise im getting about 2.5 mbps down on 4G.
