We have been asking for some all year for a change up and it seemed to give Drexel and Madison some trouble-was shaka saving it for the tournament?-we will never know but we are def. rebounding better in it and not giving up as many threes.

It was a major factor. It was more an extended, matchup zone at times. It will be interesting to see if we play ODU tomorrow if we pack it in more because they are better inside than outside.

I was calling for a zone the first time we played Mason. Not sure if it would be effective against other teams (i.e. ODu) but I thought we should"ve tried it in VCU/Mason 1.

Our zone looked good today. Clearly we've been practicing it. I was concerned because the last few times we went zone against other teams, they either shot over it or overloaded it. Today, though, each time Mason tried to get the ball to Cam Long or Andre Cornelius we had a guy in their face with their hands up to contest the shot. And after the one alley-oop they made, we held the baseline down pretty firmly.

Give Shaka credit for that one. The way we played our zone you'd have thought we've been playing it all year. Great job getting us up to speed.

The zone threw Mason today. It should never be our first line defense and wasn't, but when Mason finally figured it out and Cornelius hit two outside shots in a row the Rams slipped back into their man for man. Shaka had all the right moves today.
