I understand. I disagree, but I understand.
Conference strength is cyclical (6-7 years ago the MWC was among the derided lot of "one bid leagues" while multiple teams from the A10 went dancing every year), but also conferences aren't evaluated as blocs. Gonzaga and U San Diego are not equivalent. Houston and East Carolina are not equivalent.
If we get a disappointing seed in the dance, it's not because Dayton or SLU were weaker than expected (don't forget both were receiving AP poll votes in the preseason, and Dayton started the season ranked). If we miss out on recruits, it's not because La Salle keeps soiling their proverbial trousers. Ultimately we are responsible for how our program is perceived.
This is why I don't subscribe to the school of thought that the A10 is "holding us back".
With regards to scheduling, the fact that we'll be playing a more conventional style of offense and defense might help us get some of those games. I suspect part of our scheduling difficulties during the HAVOC years was that P6 coaches didn't want to put time and effort into preparing for a style of play that their team wouldn't see for the rest of the season.
And the more conventional style of play may also help us with recruiting. Some players just don't want to deal with the hassle of playing the press for 40 minutes a game, every game, for multiple seasons.
