2024-25 Roster Thread

Here we go again. Same format as last year. Hopefully with a little less action the first week. Not making any assumptions about who may be returning until they have either indicated that they are coming back or the portal closes on May 1st. I will edit this post daily if things are changing to keep the most recent info at the top. With that being said let's have a great off season and put together a roster that can win the A10!

Isn’t having more talent than minutes the objective? The portal provides kids lots of opportunity to align their talent, desire for PT, and now financial interests, with where they’ll play. Coaches also come/go for more enhanced opportunity to raise their NIL and the next pay step. It’s capitalism at its best and worst, yet the alternative is worse. Will the comrades in RN unit and insist all NIL be evenly distributed regardless of performace? 😂

Last season's minutes per game ....

Brickus 36.5 with the Sallies
Shulga 32.8
Jackson 29.6
Bamisile 23.2
Nelson 19.8

All with pro ambitions, who's volunteering for more butt on the bench minutes?

If same timeline continued for 24-25 Rams, that's 142 minutes for what would amount to about two and a half positions ....

Who's in? Who's out?

And where would another guard, even the talented Jennings, fit in? Redshirt?

"Waiting your turn" went the way of black 'n' white TV. (Although I'll watch Andy and Barney all day).
Nelson seems to be at about 19.8 minutes too many imo.

Dan Hurley's formula for roster construction at UCONN: “The formula is top-10 offense, top-10 defense, be a tremendous rebounding team. Be a team that plays with utter desperation.”

Good point. The NCAA has created a complete dumpster fire and it's a bad look regardless of what level the respective programs are at.
Not sure it was the fault of the NCAA. Power school were getting millions and millions but nothing at all (I guess 4 years of free education and basketball development doesn't mean anything) for the players. Players chose to sue and win, resulting in a required rules change by the NCAA

That would be called a stipend

lol, you’re probably right. Regardless, once the dust settles on portal and NIL, we’ll be ok. VCU will evolve, survive, and regain our swag.

VCU basketball defies the Law of Gravity (what goes up must come down.)

The Team of the 21st Century? Rams have been on an "upper" for longer than most can remember, and under six different coaches starting with JC3.

VCU is the Gonzaga of the East.

FFS we’re not the Gonzaga of the East. One final four. One time passed the first weekend. We’re a solid upper mid major. Gonzaga dominates their conference every year outside of maybe St Mary’s and is regularly ranked.

When we get a few more sweet 16s/elite 8/another final four and are ranked at least somewhat throughout the year feel free to start comparisons.
