Southpaw nearly tosses complete game against 25th-ranked George Mason

RICHMOND, Va. – It was an interesting off-season for senior southpaw Ian Thomas (Virginia Beach, Va.) of the Virginia Commonwealth University baseball team. After two concussions over the fall and winter seasons, Thomas got off to a slow start but has picked up steam with two consecutive outstanding starts with his latest coming against 25th-ranked George Mason.

His 8.1 solid innings led the Black & Gold to a 4-3 home victory and earned Thomas the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Pitcher of the Week award. The southpaw allowed just one earned run, scattered nine hits and picked up seven strikeouts, while walking just two Patriots all evening. On the year, Thomas sits at 3-2 with a 5.05 ERA. However in his last three starts, he has allowed just six earned runs in 21.2 innings of work for a 2.49 ERA.

Thomas and the Rams are back in action on Tuesday evening as they host in-state rival and nationally-ranked Virginia in a 7 p.m. contest. The first 500 fans will receive a free “VCU Baseball” t-shirt.
