Two Metro Detroit businessmen and six former University of Toledo athletes were indicted by a federal grand jury today in connection with a point-shaving scheme related to college football and basketball games, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.
The indictment alleges the businessmen bet the following amounts of the following men's basketball games involving the University of Toledo: $42,000 on a Nov. 20, 2005, game against the University of South Carolina; $10,000 on a Nov. 27, 2005, game against Southern Methodist University; $10,000 on a Dec. 3, 2005, game against Northern Illinois University; $44,000 on a Dec. 17, 2005, game against St. Bonaventure University; $21,000 on a Dec. 21, 2005, game against East Carolina University; $10,000 on a Jan. 4, 2006, game against Kent State University; $15,000 on a Jan. 7, 2006, game against the University of Akron; $17,000 on a Jan. 15, 2006, game against Bowling Green State University; $21,000 on a Jan. 18, 2006, game against Miami University (of Ohio); $40,000 on a Jan. 24, 2006, game against Northern Illinois University; $40,000 on a Feb. 1, 2006, game against Western Michigan University; $20,500 on a Feb. 4, 2006, game against Central Michigan University; $20,000 on a Feb. 7, 2006, game against Kent State University; $30,000 on a Feb. 18, 2006, game against University of Detroit Mercy; $25,000 on a Nov. 20, 2006, game against Virginia Commonwealth University; $21,000 on a Dec. 2, 2006, game against Vanderbilt University; and $21,000 on a Dec. 19, 2006, game against University of Detroit Mercy.
