VCU senior Max Shulga (Kyiv, Ukraine) has been named All-Atlantic 10 Conference First Team, the league announced Tuesday ahead of the start of its annual tournament championship.

A 6-foot-5 guard, Shulga is averaging a team-leading 15.0 points per game, as well as 4.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists, while shooting .443 from the field and .418 (76-of-182) from 3-point range. The Utah State transfer has also converted his free throws at an .875 (126-of-144) rate, which ranks second in the league and is currently the second-best in program history. His 2.5 three-pointers per game are fourth-most in the conference.

Shulga, who has started 30 of VCU’s 31 games this season, has scored in double figures 25 times, including six 20-point outbursts. The senior’s 126 free throws are 10th-most in program single-season history, and he is two 3-pointers from cracking VCU’s top 10 in that category.

At least one VCU player has earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 First Team in 10 of the Rams’ 12 seasons as a member of the league.

Shulga will lead fifth-seeded and defending champion VCU (19-12) as it opens A-10 Tournament play on Wednesday, March 13 at 2 p.m. in the second round against the winner of Tuesday’s first round match-up between Fordham and Davidson at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
