Rams upset in A10 Quarterfinals opener to Spiders, 75-64

Vince Williams hit a three to cap an 11-2 run midway through the first half to take a 17-11 VCU lead.

But, over the final 4:22 seconds of the first half, the Spiders ran off a 16-5 run to take a 37-29 lead into the locker room.

Jacob Gilyard scored 22 points for the Spiders in the first half on 88% (7-8FG) shooting from the floor, and 83% (5-6 3PTR) shooting from deep.

Williams triple at the 16:30 mark in the second half tied the game at 38 points. But a Gilyard three on the other end put the Spiders right back on top.

VCU had no answer for Gilyard as he finished the night with 32 points.

Richmond netted 26 points on 32 free throw shots for the evening.

The Rams were only able to convert 6 free throws into 9 points.

Ace Baldwin hit a three with 00:38 seconds on the clock to pull the game back to within 7 points, but the Rams could get no closer.

Baldwin finished the night with 12 points and 7 assists.

Seniors KeShawn Curry and Williams were the only other Rams in double-digit scoring with 14 and 18 points, respectively.

VCU turned the ball over 16 times, while UR only turned the ball over 11 times.

The Rams will now await Selection Sunday to see if their hopes of gaining an at-large bid will be realized.
