VCU (11-5; 2-1 A10) started the afternoon looking down the wrong end of 10-0 scoring run. Coach Mike Rhoades was forced to call a timeout just before the Under-16 timeout as the Davidson Wildcats came out with a one-two punch.
Somebody said something inspiring in that timeout—the Rams went on to score 41 points in the first half behind 56% FG, 54% 3PTR, and 100% FT numbers.
David Shriver shot an electric 4-5 from range in the first half. His only miss coming from a heat check shot from the halfcourt logo. The marksmen finished the afternoon with 18 points on 6-8 shooting from distance for 75%.
Hot shooting from beyond the arc was the name of the game for the Rams today.
As a team, VCU poured in 63% on 15 makes from 24 attempts for an overwhelming 45 points.
Jayden Nunn connected on 80% from range and ended the day with 12 points to go with 4 assists.
VCU dished out 20 assists as a unit today—following up from the 8 assist performance just one game ago.
Ace Baldwin, Jr. had a game-high 8 assists to go with his team-high, 19 points.
The Rams finished the night with an overall impressive shooting line 58% FG, 63% 3PTR, and 91% FT numbers.
The signature VCU defense also caused Davidson to turn the ball over 20 times on the afternoon—compared to 14 VCU turnovers.
