VCU handles Howard at home, 70-60

With tonights 70-60 win over the Howard Bison, VCU (6-4) stopped a two-game losing streak to start the month of December.

Brandon Johns, Jr. hit the open basket for the Rams, but the Bison rattled off a 10-0 run to jump out to their first and biggest lead of the game.

Johns, Jr. led the Rams in both scoring (16pts) and rebounds (7rebs) at the end of 40 minutes.

A pair of back-to-back dunks from Jalen DeLoach capped a 13-2 run for VCU who fought back to claim a 15-12 lead.

DeLoach ended the evening with 11 points—80% overall shooting—to go with 3 rebounds and a team-leading 6 steals.

It was the final lead change of the game.

An HU free throw at the 11:41 mark in the second half got the Bison back within 3pts of the Rams, but a Josh Banks triple gave the Rams the cushion they needed.

Banks ended the night with 11 points on 57% shooting including two of five from range.

A layup from Jamir Watkins capped a 7-0 run for the Rams, putting their lead back to 10-points.

Watkins had 8-points and 5-rebounds on the evening.

VCU had 12 steals and the Bison turned the ball over 20 times on the night.

The Rams were able to convert those Bison turnovers into 21 points.

The Rams also blocked away 8 shots on the night, including three from Johns, Jr.

Four free throws across back-to-back trips to the line by Jayden Nunn iced the games for the Rams.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 14th as the host the Highlanders of Radford. That game is set to tip at 7pm and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
