VCU tipped up their Atlantic 10 schedule with a home win against a former CAA foe, downing George Mason 71-57.
The Rams trailed early but went into the lockers with a one-point first half lead. The black and gold opened the second half on an 11-2 run and held Mason at arms length throughout the remainder of the contest.
GMU shot 48.5% in the first half but connected on just 24.1% in the second while turning the ball over 11 times that half and giving up 14 offensive rebounds to VCU. Senior, Juvonte Reddic, had four of those offensive boards and finished with 14 total rebounds on the night to go with nine points in the win.
Treveon Graham supplied most of the offense in the second half, scoring 13 of his 15 total points to finish the game. Graham added 10 rebounds for VCU.
Fellow junior, Briante Weber, added 10 points of his 12 on the game in the second half as well as four of his five steals. Weber is 19 steals away from becoming the all-time leader at VCU.
Terrance Shannon was active off the bench for VCU in the win, scoring seven points in just 15 minutes of play. The FSU transfer added three assists, four rebounds, a steal and blocked two shots in the win.
With the win VCU moves to 13-3 on the season, 1-0 in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams have won five straight, and will look for their first A-10 road win when they travel to DC to take on George Washington next Tuesday.
