A really fine article from Tim Pearrell in the RTD this morning. It discusses Shaka's approach to the psychological preparation that he must do to prepare his players, individually and as a team. Very revealing and very good stuff.

Smart has used various methods to build confidence. He had former Ram Juvonte Reddic do power poses. Before practices last year he had sophomore forward Mo Alie-Cox repeat that he was "the meanest, toughest, baddest dude in the state of Virginia."

"For freshmen, (you need that reinforcement) frequently because it's new to them," Alie-Cox said. " You're really confident in high school because you're the best one. In college, everyone is just as good as you, so you have to do little things to make yourself stand out and get better and have that confidence come back to you.

I think one of the TV announcers said Mo said that to him that either last year or earlier this season.

2) VCU Rams
Despite having lost Briante Weber earlier in the season, the VCU Rams style of play alone makes them an interesting potential matchup for Kentucky. Shaka Smart’s bunch will try and take the Wildcats big men out of the equation by speeding up the game and pressuring their guards in the full court for 40 minutes.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he used to walk up to the TV and media table and tell all of them that before games. He's told people that he's the baddest mother effer in VA a few times that I know of haha not sure if he still does.
