League A10 Basketball: news and discourse around the league

NYC is not an ideal place to visit these days. Lots of issues the city refuses to deal with. And now they have assigned the National Guard to the subway system. NO THANKS!!!

Guess you don't remember NYC in the olden days. Anyone here remember what it was like just prior to the Guardian Angels?

It's not half as bad as it used to be. City has really been cleaned up.

BTW, you sound like one of those University of Henrico students talking about the city of richmond.

I lived on Long Island for a year. I spent a lot of time in Manhattan. And yes, it is worse now than it has probably been in 40 years.

I traveled to NYC for day trips and overnights for work about once a week for some time in the early 2000s. My wife keeps saying she wants to do a weekend trip up there. She does not fully understand why I don't like that city and more than had my fill. Yes, parts of Richmond are rough, but I don't need to fly to go see a city that's rougher. I just think it's ugly up there. I don't understand people who romanticize New York City. Bleah.

Chicago, though ... I love Chicago.

I look at it from this perspective: if we made the final four and wanted fans to come support the team, would a trip to watch a game at Hinkle be more of a draw than if the game was in Orlando or New York or some other city with other stuff to do outside of watching the games?

I could convince myself to travel to NYC for the NIT final four because I could combine it with a "let's hang out in New York" trip. I think I would need a bit more than seeing Hinkle to make a mid-week trip to Indiana.
Don’t sleep on Indianapolis…..it’s got enough to keep a sports fan engaged for a short trip and some great steakhouses (cocktail sauce at St Elmos is an experience).

I believe Villanova was the second team we beat that had a lower net than ours
So I guess you could say we were favored to win those games

Well, I've never been so I take your word for it. But then again, it didn't get many positive comments from folks attending all-star weekend.

I had a biggarse pink and purple jellyfish float right up my pants while trying to reboard a sailboat off Shelter Island.
Before that, I had actually thought the nettles in the Rappahannock were bad.

It was the worst thing I'd ever felt in my first 40 years of life.

Villanova was 30 points higher in the NET (41) than VCU (71).

I've been going to the US Open since 1981, always staying in Manhattan. In addition, I was with a NYC firm in their Miami office for about 15 years, so I went there quite a bit for work. Over the last 2 or 3 years things have definitely gone downhill, to the point I was considering not going this year. I decided to give it another shot. We'll see.

Lived on Long Island for the first 14-years of my life. Still have family there. I remember the days of going to Manhattan and Brooklyn even late at night and feeling safe. That's gone now. Pretty lawless up there. A real shame as NYC is a fantastic place to visit.
