News VCU Athletic Village

Sorry if this has been addressed, but any chance we have a soccer stadium that we could share with the Richmond Kickers? they get an upgrade, we get a tenant, seems like a win win. I know the Kickers have City Stadium, but that is a cave man level facility.

Kickers are not gonna move. They average more than the new stadium would hold. Last I checked VCU hated other tenants. Grove United wanted to play their NPSL season there and VCU said heck no. That’s why the kickers invited them to play at theirs.

The information is out there about the Athletic Village if you go look. The university intends to build a new soccer stadium next to the tennis facility, also in the area of the ABC warehouse. McLaughlin previously said the stadium will hold about 4,000 spectators with room for expansion.

Well since the Kickers are doing 5k a game, that would be a no for now, thanks

No wonder some users around here are so interested in it, they must have great memories from their childhood.
As a matter of fact, I do.

Many a tobacco bowls football games, high school football games and if anybody remembers the Richmond Saints/Roadrunners who played there. I think the last event I attended there was the Joey Chitwood thrill show or the night Lee Davis played Armstrong in 1980.

Interesting trend, wonder if it will filter down to us, and the Atheltic Village
I love the concept! I don't think it would be something we would do especially now that Green City and Diamond District projects, and potentially the Casino, are locked in. Those are the level of funds and space needed to pull something like this off. VCU isn't a big enough national brand, nor Richmond a sports city, for it to make sense IMO, but things could definitely change in the next 10-15 years. I think the Durham, Chapel Hill and Raleigh triangle would be a great spot to have one though. Would be a quick trip from Richmond too

Why are they building a new arts center. I thought they have a big building on Broad St. in addition of the arts museum on Broad and Boulevard. Whatever happened to the Pollack building BTW....did they tear that down?

You mean Broad and Belvidere… right?
