It'll be interesting to hear women's tennis players saying "Let's go Revolutionaries" in thick eastern European accents after scoring points. It'll be like 1848 all over again!

When I hear the word Revolutionaries I think of people like Che Guevara.

Weren't "Colonials" "Revolutionaries" of the British Empire. After all, it was called the American Revolution. Not sure what GW actually accomplished with this name change. They claim "Colonials" was offensive, but "Revolutionaries" can also be related to third world countries and rape/pillage/cartels... Seems like an exercise in futility. Absolutely nothing was accomplished by this name change, other than useless spending of thousands of dollars that could have gone for a more worthy cause.

My wife was saying the same thing this morning when I told her about the new name. Trying to get myself into the mindset of those who were offended by "Colonials," I guess you could say...

colonialism = bad
American Revolution = good

But, the thing is, you can't have one without the other. If the British hadn't colonized the New World, there wouldn't have been a revolution. It's all very odd. I agree that they should have gone with Blue Fog. I actually would have preferred Hippos.

So the definition of Revolutionary is
1. involving or causing a complete or dramatic change.

2. engaged in or promoting political revolution.

So even if they don't want it to represent the latter.... what is so new or dramatically different about GW that makes them think this is a good fit? My guess is they stuck with Revolutionary because then they could keep the current GW mascot I guess?

Where as if it was something like Blue Fog... what would their mascot be?

No matter what the new nickname was, the mascot was always going to remain a guy in a George Washington suit.
